The Bruins’ road trip ended the way it started. Robert Thomas and Philip Broberg each had a goal and two assists, and the St. Louis Blues beat Boston 4-1 Thursday night at Enterprise Center.

The Bruins (9-4-1) lost both games of the two-game trip after an eight-game point streak (7-0-1), according to NHL.com.

How it went

James Hagens gave Boston a 1-0 lead at 5:28 of the first period, redirecting a Casey Mittelstadt feed past Blues goalie Joel Hofer’s glove after Mittelstadt picked off a pass up the boards.

St. Louis answered with four straight goals. Jimmy Snuggerud tied it on a power-play one-timer at 15:43 of the first, the Blues’ first goal in more than two games after back-to-back shutout losses. Broberg made it 2-1 at 5:17 of the second with a wrist shot from the high slot, and Thomas made it 3-1 at 12:08. Jake Neighbours added a power-play goal at 12:42 of the third.

Joel Hofer made 31 saves for St. Louis, including 14 in the third period. Jeremy Swayman made 14 saves for Boston.

Sturm not pleased

“Even the games we won lately, we were just making sloppy mistakes, and it finally caught up to us a little bit on this road trip,” Bruins coach Marco Sturm said. “But besides that, the effort today, especially the first 40 minutes, was pretty bad. That for me was the most disappointing thing.”

“That’s one of the hottest teams in the League,” Thomas said of the Bruins.

Notes

Hagens tied Phil Kessel, who did it in 16 games in 2006-07, as the fastest Boston teenager in the past 20 years to score five career goals, according to NHL.com. Defenseman Connor Clifton played 14:12 in his first game after seven straight healthy scratches. It was the Blues’ first home win against Boston since Game 4 of the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.

The Bruins return home to face the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, according to The Associated Press.
