Halloween weekend riders on the Green Line will need a backup plan. The MBTA will suspend service on large parts of the line on Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1, for signal modernization work in the central tunnel.
Where trains will not run
There will be no B branch service between North Station and Babcock Street and no E branch service between North Station and Heath Street. C and D trains will not run between North Station and Kenmore, though the branches will operate normally from Kenmore to Cleveland Circle and Riverside, according to the MBTA.
All Green Line stops north of North Station will have normal service.
How to get around
The MBTA recommends buses for trips to Copley and Back Bay, and the Orange Line between Back Bay and North Station. Route 57, which parallels the B branch between Kenmore and Packard's Corner, and Route 39, which parallels the E branch, will be free.
Why now
The closure comes about a month after the same stretches were shut for nine days of similar work, the Boston Globe reported. MBTA spokesperson Lisa Battiston said weekend closures are the most efficient way to do the work. “This work cannot be performed during the overnight hours when the MBTA does not operate,” she said in a statement.
