Ferry riders north and south of Boston get a few more months on the water. The MBTA announced Oct. 28 that four seasonal ferry routes will keep running through Dec. 31.

Which routes

The East Boston route will continue with weekday and weekend service. The Lynn, Winthrop and Quincy routes will continue with weekday service, according to the MBTA.

Four routes already operate year-round: Hingham/Rowes Wharf, Harbor Loop and Hingham/Hull on weekdays, and the Charlestown ferry on weekdays and weekends.

What officials said

“Thousands of riders enjoy taking the ferry for their travels, and the MBTA is pleased to be able to extend this ferry season,” said Phillip Eng, interim transportation secretary and MBTA general manager.

Before you go

The MBTA says inclement weather and unsafe sea conditions can affect service, and it will post alerts if trips are disrupted. There is no ferry service on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year's Day. Schedules are on the MBTA website and in the MBTA Go app.

On the same day, the agency also announced two virtual public meetings on its Regional Rail modernization plan, set for 6 p.m. on Nov. 4 and Nov. 17.
